Today I attended a field trip to the Microbiology building in which we examined a sample of water looking for a variety of microbes thriving within it. Some of the organims we saw included diatoms, paramecium, and photosynthetic cyanobacteria. It's truly amazing being able to witness this microscopic world in action. Above is a carousel of pictures documenting my time looking in the microscope!
Do you think there are bacteria in your sample?
Yes.
If yes, why don’t you see them at 10x magnification?
Bacteria are extremely small, prokaryotic organisms. You would need a greater magnification than that of our basic light microscope to be able to see them.

A big thanks to Dr. Oli for all her help in the lab today!
